Health Update

So now I am back from the doc. . . .

I spent from Monday to Wednesday in the Hospital for “Chest Pain”.   The tests showed no sign of any “Cardiac Event”, but the doc says the chest pain was caused by “Pleuritis” (Infection in the lining of the lung) brought on by the nasty flu I just got over.

All I know is that I hate “quote marks”!

Right now my days are filled with moderate chest pain and difficulty in breathing.

My butt is going to grow roots into the couch if I keep this up!

I don’t have to go on the cart.

Dear friends, family, co-workers, and well wishers: The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

Thank you that is all.

Alright, so there is more than that. The story plays out like this.

I have recently recovered from the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus. Monday of this week I developed the most dreaded of complaints, “Chest Pain”. I came home after work, showered and sat down to relax. Before you
attack me for putting it off, the pain in my chest was only a “one” on a scale of one to ten. A few hours later the pain had escalated to a “four”, and no amount of relaxation or denial was helping the
situation.

In response, I packed up my laptop and a book and made off to the hospital. (I go nowhere without my laptop). During the drive the level of pain increased to a “seven” and it became difficult to breathe. When we arrived at the emergency room, I was already light headed, and when I stood up out of the car the world took a spin and the planet leaped up from it’s normal place beneath my feet and without provocation, stuck me in the head.

When I came to, I was surrounded by two EMT guys and Dara, who helped me into a wheelchair and wheeled me into the ER.

At this point, the chest pain continued to increase so I was introduced to the wonders of opiate based intravenous medication.

Shortly, the world became much more fuzzy and although I was still in pain I was not too concerned about it.

Several blood tests and a 36 hour observation later It was determined that I had not suffered a heart attack.

I have been released from the hospital.

Although I still have chest pain, it is very minor (Between a “two and four”) and I am going to the doctor’s tomorrow for more tests.

I am convinced that my shortness of breath is simply from the chest pain and the chest pain comes from constant coughing during the flu I have recently recovered from.

So in short,

I don’t have to go on the cart.
I feel happy, I feel happy!
I think Ill go for a walk.

American Cancer Society

My Mom died of of Ovarian Cancer when she was only 52.   She was a generous loving and trusting person who I see every day in my own children so when I heard by way of my boss that the American Cancer Society was coming to Mayo I offered my assistance to the effort.

I have been given the opportunity to create a DVD with a 1000 pictures and a couple movies of the event (Mayo Relay for Life)

I will be done with the master by friday (the 28th of May) and will be compiling the order list.

See this post for updates!

Stupid Juice

When I was a kid, not too many decades ago, my friends and I coined the term “Stupid Juice”.

Stupid Juice is a powerful, and in many cases, toxic substance. It is found in males of all species, both human and non-human, and is the primary cause of death in adult human males. [Read more →]
