Adobe AIR 1.0

Adobe to launch AIR 1.0

A couple months ago I went to Atlanta GA with my good friend Chris Carlton, the “partner” in partnersindesign.info for a conference at the Fox Theater hosted by Adobe to showcase their upcoming product AIR. (Adobe Integrated Runtime)

I was really impressed by the quality of the product and the great power that it has to merge the online and desktop environment. What worries me is the very power it gives to the AIR programmer. In the past if you had a page that was refusing to cooperate you could always CTRL-ALT-DEL your way out of it by finding your browser and shutting it down. but with an AIR application the user will have to search through their list of running process and shut down the correct one, something many of my clients would, sadly not be able to do.

Mind you, that was months ago, I am confident that many of the security concerns have been addressed. I have great confidence in Adobe, and use many of their products.

I have heard it stated on Boagworld that “trust is the currency of the internet” How many of you trust the ALL websites you visit enough to run an executable from them that has access to your hard drive and a channel to the net? I don’t trust ANY of them, but I am just paranoid.

I plan on using AIR in some upcoming products myself but I wonder, how many will trust me?
