According to the Tampa Tribune Tallahassee Representatives are planning cuts to the states criminal justice system.

Obviously, they have very little concern for our safety. I am an Officer, and I have first hand experience of what goes on out here. It saddens me greatly to see the callous disregard for the well being of Florida’s citizens. I have called and emailed our representatives and I ask that you do the same. Here is what I have sent them.

I am contacting you in regard to the proposed cuts to the Florida Department of Corrections.

I consider this foolish and dangerous action tantamount to an attack on the safety and welfare of my family, friends and fellow Floridians, Your constituents.

Should the funding the Florida Department of Corrections misguidedly be reduced, I will join in the thousands of Correctional officers across the state and call for your replacement in all haste.

I am sure that you understand that many other states look to Florida as an example, be it good or bad policy.
Your actions not only threaten the safety of all Floridians, but will have far reaching repercussions for millions of Americans across the nation.

Imagine tens of thousands of officers in fear of losing their jobs.
- Who will rehire an officer if there are cuts state-wide?

Imagine tens of thousands of officers in fear of losing their homes.
- Homeowners are suffering in the housing crises, do you want to be associated with adding even more?

Imagine tens of thousands of officers in fear of losing their health insurance
- Once off the Insurance plan many officers will not be able to afford the premiums!

Imagine tens of thousands of officers in fear of failing to provide for their families.
- Your name associated with the deprivation of officers who have sacrificed their safety for the sake of yours.

Imagine tens of thousands of officers in fear of finding another job in these hard economic times
- The press keeps shouting recession, what employer hires during so much uncertainty?

NOW imagine all of these tens of thousands of individuals devoted to your failure in the next election!

NOW is the time to stand up and show the families of Florida and the people of America that safety is NOT a luxury!

The Officers of Florida are a brotherhood, an attack against a few is viewed as an attack against us all, even if only a few hard working fine officers who put their lives on the line for you and all Floridians are given the axe, the pain is felt by us all.

Today I sent this one:

To my respected representatives,

Currently you as a group are considering cuts to DOC.

As an officer her on the “front lines” I can assure you that while it may seem tempting to be “Hard on Crime/Criminals” and make cuts to our budget, with our current rate of recidivism, shortly some recently released criminal will commit some ghastly crime.

Since you seem incapable of performing the political math, let me offer this equation:

1. YOU cut the budget for “Probation”
2. A criminal kills a child, savagely rapes a woman, etc . . .
3. YOUR NAME is associated with the crime!
After all, YOU cut the budget, making it impossible for Officers to do their job effectively!,
Even worst, some officers were FIRED, POSITIONS LEFT UNFILLED, OR EVEN TAKEN OFF THE STREETS!
When will the next horrific crime that could have been prevented occur?
Why have YOU let this criminal do this?

Do you want that?

Since you have very little concern for the safety of Floridians, maybe you have some concern for your career.

Please, I implore you, do not sacrifice our safety.

Make the right decision out of concern for the safety of Floridians, instead out of fear for losing your jobs.

Please take the time and join me in contacting YOUR representatives and demand they NOT cut corners on the safety of our spouses, children and friends!
